Private Voice Lessons are available for students ages 12+. I believe that group singing experiences are best for younger children in developing their voices. As students grow closer to their teenage years, they are ready to transition to more focused, individual instruction.
In this studio, voice instruction is approached from a traditional, classical approach. Students receive individualized instruction in breath management and vocal technique, while working on selected repertoire. Chosen repertoire pieces will periodically rotate, but students should expect to work on approximately 4 solo pieces per semester. I have found great success for students when beginning with pieces from the classical folk song and art song tradition. They are wonderful for building technique and flexibility in the voice. Students also work on contrasting pieces that include music from musicals, movies, or contemporary works. I believe that as students develop proficiency in the art song, they will be better equipped to tackle any genre they choose.
